This discussion will examine the link between youth mental health and underage substance use. We’ll explore how emotional well-being, stress, and other mental health challenges can influence substance use among teens, and discuss ways parents and caregivers can offer support.

Tracy Foose, MD

Dr. Foose, former Director of UCSF’s Anxiety Disorders Treatment Program, continues to teach about fear and anxiety at the UCSF School of Medicine. Wanting to bring her expertise closer to home, she established a psychiatry practice focused on anxiety. For the past 15 years, she has explored how protective emotions like fear and anxiety can sometimes lead to significant distress and impairment.
