Navigating the Dangers and Opportunities of Adolescent Risk Taking

With Dr. Aran Watson, Clinical Psychologist and Wellness Coordinator for San Rafael City Schools
This event is designed to reflect on and discuss the significant challenges and risks of adolescence in our current world while also highlighting key areas of strength and opportunity for adolescents in Marin. Together, we will analyze adolescent experiences of multi-
layered stress and risk-taking as well as build shared language and commitment to implementing and sustaining trauma-informed, culturally-grounded healing practices for our youth. The training is open to caregivers, teenagers, as well as those in the Education, Public Health, Community Mental Health, and Youth & Family Services fields.
Training Goals
- Deepen understanding of adolescent development & risks-taking in the context of uncertainty and multiple diverse stress exposure in Marin County.
- Reflect collectively on youth-informed healing strategies for complex trauma
- Introduce strategies for protecting adolescents from harm while emphasizing and encouraging the unique strengths of adolescents
